Revisiting Special Projects and Scientists (11.04.2025)

Hello everyone, welcome to dev diary, this one will give hints towards changes upcoming in 3.3 patch of Vaults of Knowledge.

Overhaul of Special Project mechanic : Mix of Research and Production

Before overhaul towards production was introduced, there were special projects ( one tbh) that player could undertake, which was Nanoforge Restoration. Since introduction of Overhaul towards custom production, that mechanic has been removed.

In it's place we have currently Special projects: related more towards building unique ships, that require tons of resources. I thought with time that projects should include other stuff, like additional abilities ,etc etc, which made me think about reworking entire mechanic, and bring back some mechanics from already tested in past, research projects.

Changes towards UI

One of very first noticeable changes compared to old one , will be UI design. Here I wanted to showcase more of ... analytic approach towards special project. Each stage you can do in any order you want : completing all stages will result in project being finished: giving you certain reward: ship, ability, weapons etc etc.

In addition to completely new UI, now special projects wont only cover ships, but also developing new commodities, gaining new abilities etc etc. Can't really reveal all things : P.

Scientist rework : new skills and uses

With introduction of special projects, I do intend to add at least for now one additional scientists, that you will be able to recruit, whom will specialize in some special projects.

Bug fixes

As much as I wish for this update to be bigger on initial release, a lot of very serious bugs were discovered in middle of working on 3.3 update. For which I do apologize, cause some where caused by me being messy cook. So currently my plan involves working as fast as possible on 3.3 update with for now minimal content, and after finishing and polishing it , release other things I wanted to introduce for this new mechanic.

New arts

A new artist has joined to aid us : Neoysod , together with CY are working on sprites like icons, industries etc etc. As you could saw, Nidavelir is currently in middle of getting new sprites. So far 2 sections and megastructure profile has been done.

With all being said. I work tirelessly to bring 3.3 update as fast as possible, to bring necessary fixes, and new content. I do predict somewhere within 2 weeks update should be completed!
